Help Fund Projects: Creating Your Own Fundraising Campaigns
No doubt about it. ... One of the barriers to solving the worlds water crisis is financial. But when you consider that the additional $30 billion that the UN estimates it would take to provide access to safe water to the entire planet is just a third of what the world spends in a year on bottled water, our challenge seems like one we can win. With your help, we can! No matter how small or large, your fundraising efforts will have a ripple effect. Remember not everyone will be able to give to your campaign, but everyone who hears about it will better understand the crisis the world faces.
Anyone can create and Event or become a Fundraiser. Here's how:
|
You Can Also Use These Tools to Earn Funds for Water Recruit people to the cause, and Facebook will track your results. |

|

Step 1 :: Set Up Your Personal Campaign
a) Decide what it will be ... an event, personal challenge or message.
If you need some creative help, please see our Helpful Fundraising Ideas.
- If you want to create a public event, see our Create and Event page.
b) Custimize your own fundraising web page
Use our on-line fundraising to easily set up your own web page to collect donations. You will receive an email confirmation that your page has been created. Keep that email! And note the URL of your fundraising page to include in your own communications.
c) Print out our pledge form for offline fundraising. *
Remember, no amount is too small – it all counts!
- Upon completing your event or challenge, collect pledges from each donor.
- Checks should be made to "Blue Planet Network." Your name should be noted on the check so we know whom the money is supporting.
- For cash, send us a list of: donors' names, $ amount, addresses and emails so we can send them a tax receipt. Keep the cash; send us one check made out to "Blue Planet Network" to cover that amount.
- Mail us the total amount enclosed along with a copy of the pledge form and cash donors' info.
Step 2 :: Let the World Know What You Are Doing
a) Send an email to everyone you know to gain support!
- You can copy and paste text from our Letters Page. Send a message one month before your event. Fill in the blanks and personalize. *Include a photo if possible.
- A week or so before your event, send a second note – Fill in the blanks and personalize. People get busy and forget – they may need a reminder!
- Just after your event: Send a final letter to everybody - include highlights from your event, the amount of money you raised, etc. Include photos. Provide people with a final opportunity to make a tax-deductible contribution.
b) Add a message to your email signature.
"I'm (add your event or campaign) to bring safe drinking water to the world. Please support me at (insert the URL of your fundraising page)."
c) Use your social networking pages.
Describe your training, event and support for Blue Planet Network on Facebook, MySpace or other online community areas.
- Insert the URL of your fundraising page. (Can't find your URL? Check your email or search here.)
- Include a photo of our water projects from our Artwork Resource Kit.
d) Donation Jar/Box/Cans.
Decorate a jar/box or can using images from our Artwork Resource Kit.
- Place your fundraising letter nearby so people can learn more about your event.
- Ask family, friends, etc. to put a jar/box/can on their desk at work.
- Ask local merchants to sponsor you by putting a jar/box/can next to the cash register.
- Bring a jar/box/can to dinners, BBQs, birthday parties, or any social event where your friends or family gather.
7) Ask for Employer Sponsorships.
Ask friends and family to speak with their employers about sponsoring you or matching their donations.
