El Porvenir means “the future”.

Clean water means a healthier future for rural Nicaraguans. In partnership with the people of Nicaragua, we help them build a future for themselves. Providing clean drinking water is the core of what El Porvenir is about; sanitation is necessary to ensure that the water is clean. In addition to sustainable water and sanitation projects, we provide health and hygiene education and reforestation.

El Porvenir is a grassroots organization committed for 19 years to help the rural poor of Nicaragua uplift themselves starting with water and sanitation projects. Hygiene education and reforestation components are added to create a holistic model of intervention. It has worked for many years in several municipalities of Nicaragua, has a small local office in each, and local personnel. El Porvenir is well known in these areas, and communities readily find the organization to ask for financing for projects and for follow up. Projects are initiated by the communities, which provides the labour for the projects, while El Porvenir provides the materials and technical guidance.
