2006 Funded and Committed Projects
In December of 2006, Blue Planet Run Foundation committed a half a million dollars to its growing network of water project implementors. All projects applications and selections were made through our revolutionary Peer Water Exchange (PWX). This year we funded new projects with all our partners and added a couple new partners in new countries. To date using PWX, we have funded 135 projects in 13 different countries, 75 which are completed and 60 in progress. These projects have impacted an estimated 116,500 people.

| Akuapem North & Yilo Krobo Integrated Water Project,
Eastern Region, Ghana In the isolated, mountainous eastern region of Ghana people mainly rely on streams, rivers and other unsafe sources of water, all high risk for disease given the practice of open defecation and poor hygiene close by. This project will spread equity and inclusion by addressing the water, sanitation, and hygiene needs of the neglected peoples in these rural and peripheral communities. Update: This project is finished! It is the first year of a five year program and it was responsible for the construction of 10 hand-dug wells and 150 household VIP latrines. [PWX report] |

| Boqueron K'asa Gravity Fed Water Project,
Cochabamba Region, Bolivia The people of Boqueron K'asa have been requesting a water system from the municipality of Tiraque for several years. This project will provide the 505 community members with safe drinking water and hygiene education. There will be a lot of emphasis on financial management training and sanitation-generation, with the idea that money from the water tariff will not only cover the cost of cleaning supplies, spares, and a plumber's salary, but that the community will be able to save money for a sanitation project. | Sierra Leone | Safer Future | $14,960 | 736 |
| Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Tank for 2 Communities,
Port Loko District, Sierra Leone Background: The villages of Masampa and Ferry Bonda Sirma lack any safe water source, save a dysfunctional well. Update: Turmoil from recent elections have caused great difficulty in Sierra Leone the past few months. This project was dropped because the communities were disagreeing and Safer Future recognized that long-term participation could suffer. Part of these funds were re-allocated to create a larger water storage tank for a concurrent WHT for 3 Rural Schools project. |
