- Statement: “The more we work to supply clean water to all people, the better humanity will be.” – Victor Lara Ricco, 2007
A true free spirit, Victor has run for many causes for more than 20 years. Inspired to take up running by his uncle at an early age, Victor has gone to the extent of covering his body in bottles of water simply to run them through a remote region of his country and deliver them to a village in need. He is also closely involved with Libre Infancia — an aid organization that works with children living in local landfills.
Victor views the issue of the water crisis in three simple words: “Water is life.” Recognizing the existence of the clean-water-shortage problem in places ranging from his native Central America to Africa and India, Victor is committed to teaching someone to live a happier, fuller, healthier, and more comfortable life through his actions in the 2007 Blue Planet Run.
Victor learned about the Blue Planet Run from a friend in the United States who heard it mentioned on television. The friend wrote the foundation describing Victor’s many talents and relating tales of Victor’s dedication to improving the quality of life for all people.
Victor has been running for 20 years. He was inspired to apply to the Blue Planet Run because participating would provide an opportunity to change the world positively by means of his favorite sport. Victor is very eager to meet the rest of the team and travel to new places. He believes that “the more we preserve water, the more lives we can touch in parts of the world with shortages.”
Victor is currently completing a degree in business administration at the University San Francisco Marroquin (Gallileo). He works part-time as an outdoor-adventure tour guide for Old Towne Outfitters in Antigua, Guatemala. In preparation for the Blue Planet Run, Victor trains five hours a day (not counting the physical training he gets from his job). He has also been doing yoga for the past couple of years and, as a devout Catholic, prays frequently.
