The exchange point at Toms River, New Jersey, was filled with Dot's relatives
and friends: all of her siblings, some cousins, and good friends. She ran
with her sister Marjorie Brinton and friends Diane McNamara, Kim Richmond
and Sal Minardi; her sister, Kim and herself all graduated from Toms River
High School. Laura had a nice run with guest runner Patrick West. Simon ran
in with his girlfriend Kelly (who had flown in from Seattle) and a pace runner.
Alexia Cosatto, 7, got a BPR map autographed by Team Blue and then accompanied
Richard Johnson for 5 miles on her new bicycle. Her parents forgot to bring
their camera, but were thrilled to connect to BPR at NJ's Highlands. Victor
had a great guest runner, Kyle Spencer, a Rotarian from the Warren-Watchung
Rotary Club who, after finishing his first 10 miles of the day, then ran another
10 with Sunil! Richard also caught the double leg bug and joined Victor and
Kyle for two consecutive runs! A bunch of Sunil's friends from school came
out to cheer him on. Two policemen spotted Lansing on his way to Ridgefield
Park after learning about the Run and were really excited to cheer him on.

Richmond, and Sal Minardi run into the exchange in Lavalette.

Rudy, who's been biking 50+ miles daily to heal his bursitis, ran several miles with Heiko's girlfriend Virginia. Jason (our 22nd runner turned driver) ran 3 miles with Paul, the first time he's run since having broken his foot back in Belgium. Team Yellow was not allowed to cross the George Washington Bridge until 6 A.M.; with extra time on their hands, they stopped into a diner. A curious patron, John Kang, asked how they could all look so athletic that early in the morning. When they answered and explained the Run, he was so amazed that he bought them all breakfast! Heiko ran across the Bridge as the sun was rising and the rest of his team, accompanied by John Kang, all walked across. What could be a better way to enter New York City?
