Excitement was in the air as we approached Moscow, but it all seemed to take a little longer than we thought. Traffic and pollution were thick as we entered the city, but a police escort expedited matters for the runners.

The extra work to get into Moscow was truly worth it. The runners on the 9 a.m.–3 p.m. shift got to go on a sightseeing mission after their run, which included Red Square and the Kremlin. Emmanuel Kibet bought a furry Russian hat with flaps that he sported around town. He got quite a few smiles and chuckles, and before you knew it, Emmanuel became his own tourist attraction! Strangers were asking for his picture, and Emmanuel obliged, smiling and posing with all who asked. It's all in a day's work for a Blue Planet Run global messenger.

After nearly a week without an Internet connection, the runners gathered at the hotel lobby to take advantage of the free wireless Web access and send a few e-mails to friends and family.

Many runners commented that the trip is beginning to seem truly exotic and foreign. Our translators say that the real adventure begins in the coming days as the runners leave the comfort of Moscow and head into territory that is literally unmapped. Many runners are finally beginning to feel like they are a long way from home.
