Today was another stellar day in the bay area, packed with all the most important elements of the Blue Planet Run.

Brynn and I started the day with an early morning drive to the local Fox TV station in Oakland, where we were guests on the top morning show in the Bay Area. The show’s host, Ross, interviewed us along with Jin (BPR’s founder). It was fun to get back in front of the TV camera, and although I still get a bit nervous, it is such a rush to be in the studio and see how smooth they make everything look, despite the buzz of activity behind the scenes.

After a quick phone interview for a local radio show, we headed to the Dow plant in Pittsburg (north of Oakland) where they were hosting a fun run and Blue Planet Run support stop. Besides providing financial support to make the run possible, Dow has also provided loads of nonmonetary support for the runners along the way and we’re always thankful when the route
takes us near a Dow facility.

Our running legs took us through the Berkeley hills and back down along the water’s edge where we finished in Oakland. Again, the views throughout the day were breathtaking and a few times I looked at Brynn and smiled to say, this is why we live here!

After handing off the baton to Shiri and the Silver team, we quickly made our way to a local elementary school, where the kids were awaiting our arrival. The teachers there had told the students about BPR the day before and since the route was coming right past the school, they asked if a few runners could come speak with the kids and autograph maps of the route. We visited with the kids, talked about the water issue and helped them cheer loudly for David as he passed.

After a quick stop at In-N-Out burger (finally, I got my fix!) we made our way south to Salinas, CA. We relished the day’s activity, knowing that not all days of BPR are created equal!

August 16, 2007 - Pace Runners and Pizza

The past two nights we’ve been treated with Pace Runners here in Colorado. It is amazing how energizing it is to have new and enthusiastic faces milling about in running gear at exchange points.

August 11, 2007 - How beautiful it is

The past ten days of running back in the US has reminded me how spectacularly beautiful this country is that we live in.

August 7, 2007 - Lake Mead

Today, as our team ran through the Mojave Desert and past Lake Mead, we were all reminded that access to safe drinking water is not just an issue affecting the developing world.

August 5, 2007 - Homemade cookies

It doesn’t take much to boost morale. A dozen home-baked cookies will do the trick.

August 3, 2007 - Two fond memories

Today’s route brought us past two locales very important to me: the town of Carmel, where I proposed to Brynn, and Big Sur, where I ran one of my favorite marathons only weeks before the start of BP

July 30, 2007 - Japan

What a wonderful relief to be out of Beijing and into the peaceful calm of the Japanese countryside.

July 28, 2007

This is going to be a very short blog.

Today we ran in Beijing.

It was hot.

It was humid.

It was extremely polluted.

There was relentless traffic.
