After a few days spent in very rural Siberia, today we arrived in Russia’s third largest city, Novosibirsk, and were greeted with some eager press and a chance to really spread the message with some locals.

It was our day off running, but we capitalized on being in a big city by getting in front of some of the local news outlets. We went down to the local pedestrian pathway along the river where we met up with some TV, radio and print reporters. At first we were a bit surprised that the local PR contacts and reporters seemed to be dressed like they were heading out to the bars, but I guess that is just a cultural difference. Either that or maybe they were heading out clubbing after our interviews – after all, we did meet them at 8:30pm. In fact, one fairly scantily clad woman came up to our group and we were chatting with her about BPR for 5 minutes before we realized she was a reporter. We only figured it out when she pulled out a tape recorder! Regardless of attire, we were happy to have an opportunity to talk about the cause and get some media coverage.

August 5, 2007 - Homemade cookies

It doesn’t take much to boost morale. A dozen home-baked cookies will do the trick.

Today’s route brought us past two locales very important to me: the town of Carmel, where I proposed to Brynn, and Big Sur, where I ran one of my favorite marathons only weeks before the start of BP

July 28, 2007

This is going to be a very short blog.

Today we ran in Beijing.

It was hot.

It was humid.

It was extremely polluted.

There was relentless traffic.
