I’m happy to report that I’m fully recovered now and back on the road, running to spread the message of safe drinking water.

After a couple of days rest following the bout of food poisoning, I’m feeling great. My recovery was capped by a very relaxing morning at our hotel in the small town of Tatarsk. The hotel had shared bathrooms and there wasn’t a restaurant in town, so we made our own “breakfast in bed”. For such occasions, we have a reserve of instant oatmeal and Nescafe.

Once we had prepared our gourmet breakfast, we set up the computer between our two small bunk beds and slipped in a movie. Just last night we discovered that Mary had been sent a packet of DVD’s from her husband (thank you, Paul!) and so we borrowed “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” knowing that we would have a few hours of free time in the morning before heading out for our 3pm run start. We sat in our beds with oatmeal and coffee in our laps and were thoroughly entertained by Audrey Hepburn’s antics. It is amazing how easily you can be entertained when you have gone without any TV or cinema for a long time.

I was a bit nervous about how my legs would feel heading into my run, having taken the couple of days off, but after a couple miles of warm-up I slipped into a nice rhythm and had one of my fastest legs yet. It felt great to be back on the road and again we had lots of supportive drivers and passers-by along the route. I even had a couple of local Russians snapping photos as I ran by – obviously they had seen us on the news beforehand.

August 16, 2007 - Pace Runners and Pizza

The past two nights we’ve been treated with Pace Runners here in Colorado. It is amazing how energizing it is to have new and enthusiastic faces milling about in running gear at exchange points.

The past ten days of running back in the US has reminded me how spectacularly beautiful this country is that we live in.

August 7, 2007 - Lake Mead

Today, as our team ran through the Mojave Desert and past Lake Mead, we were all reminded that access to safe drinking water is not just an issue affecting the developing world.

August 5, 2007 - Homemade cookies

It doesn’t take much to boost morale. A dozen home-baked cookies will do the trick.

August 3, 2007 - Two fond memories

Today’s route brought us past two locales very important to me: the town of Carmel, where I proposed to Brynn, and Big Sur, where I ran one of my favorite marathons only weeks before the start of BP

August 2, 2007 - Fox News and school kids

Today was another stellar day in the bay area, packed with all the most important elements of the Blue Planet Run.

August 1, 2007 - Home Sweet Home!

Today was a glorious day as the Blue Planet Run made its return to the US with a beautiful clear day in the San Francisco bay area.

What a wonderful relief to be out of Beijing and into the peaceful calm of the Japanese countryside.

July 28, 2007

This is going to be a very short blog.

Today we ran in Beijing.

It was hot.

It was humid.

It was extremely polluted.

There was relentless traffic.
