After crossing the Belarus boarder we spent the night in the city of Brest which has a similar population to my home city Wellington which is 400,000. The diet of the Belarus people consist mainly of Potatoes which I am please to say and every time a get a plate of potatoes I cheekily asked them if these are Moonlight potatoes (the moonlight is a variety of potato named after me in New Zealand)!

Naturally they are not quite sure what I am talking about, but being on day 25 of this run we need all the carbohydrates we can get and we will certainly have them in abundance in Belarus and Russia. In Brest we were greeted by the Russian MIR Corp and were introduced to our tour managers who would take us to the Mongolian boarder. Each of the 5 Blue Planet Run teams has a tour guide and a driver and my team - the Blue team were fortunate to get Victor (our driver) and Dasha (our tour manager). Their native city is called Ulan-ude which is in Siberia and is made up of 60% Russian and 21% Burayat ( these people are of Mongolian decent).

On the second night in Belarus we spent the night in the capital city of Minsk and I was most impressed with the character of this city, even though 90% of it had been destroyed during WWII. I took a walk down the main street in Minsk and walked straight onto a movie set, everyone was dressed in character and all the props were of the WWI era…..I stood there in my pink Adidas dress ( somewhat out of place) watching scenes been shot from this War movie. Dill from Ignition had flown in to spend a few days with us till Moscow and just to make sure things were ticking along, its always great to have him here because he provides a wonderful energy which I know the teams feed off of. And so after a great night in Mintz it was off.
