- Statement: “If I can make a difference and create that awareness then I feel I have done my bit in my lifetime.” – Melissa Moon, 2007
We are on our 3rd night of the 9pm - 3am shift, I ran last night through Belgium from 9pm - 10.15pm - it was a beautiful still evening, there are many things going through your head when you run, last night was a little tough as my legs felt quite tired. I think it’s the constant sitting in the Van, so after my run I made sure I stretched whenever we stopped to cheer the other runner on or talk to some of the locals about the Blue Planet Run. I think about the feeling we are all going to experience when we run back through New York City when we are finishing this adventure - it seems along way off but the time is going fast.
At 1am and 2am through Belgium I stopped at a couple of dairies to buy something to eat and to tell the shop keeper what we were doing with this Blue Planet Run . One of the shop keepers was from Pakistan and the other Nepal - It does cross my mind as I stand there in the early hours of the morning ranting and raving about where I have run too over the last 7 days (5 countries in 7 days) and where we are heading, too. I keep wondering if they are believing this little blond girl with a kiwi accent telling them this unusual story at 2am, but last night I was given a free diet coke and Taeko was give a rose as she ran through Antwerp because of our efforts!
At our last exchange point to hand over the baton to the next team doing the 3am -9am shift we decided to have a bit of fun. Jason from Canada attached the flashing light from the Van to his waste and with the music from the Van ,Takeo and I decided to have a bit of a disco boogie with
him - the silly things you do in a foreign country at 3am!

KAZAN and the Russian Massage
I was most impressed with this Russian city, it has a population of 1.1 million and is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, home of the descendents of the nomadic Turkic tribe.
