Ran last night through Wales, then drove 120 miles to our hotel and proceeded to sleep like the dead from 6am to 2pm. Woke to Brits arguing over the proposed London Olympic Games logo, very funny. The media claims someone looked at it and had an epileptic seizure.

Last night’s run was beautiful, through small settlements in the countryside. I ran along stone walls and ledges with deep dark forests along side, alternating with stony pastures full of bleating sheep. Finished in a small hamlet called Padog, still in Wales. No one was awake. One young man came out of a closed pub to see what we were about. We gifted him with a BPR shirt and amazed him with what we’re doing. Earlier we tried getting access to a pub where a private party was underway. The looks on the owner’s face when we explained we were running around the world was clearly of disbelief. I’m sure he thought it was a ruse to get in the door after hours. Plus we were punchy tired.

England is a string of round abouts. The language of the Brits is literal and entertaining. For instance, ‘free house” at a pub means no cover charge, ‘set off only” in a parking zone is no standing, ‘give way” at the roundabouts, ‘no top ups” at the gas stations, you get the drift. To change the channel on your TV you either ‘set up” or ‘set down.”

A lovely older woman provided us with directions to Oxford Centre, very precisely, and we had a brief breeze through the streets and the famous Oxford University, and a good lunch. Lovely city with music, fair trade booths, lots of folks mingling. Brits visit with each other a lot and are uniquely dressed. It’s lovely. There is lots of good music playing in all the shops. And they are interested in our cause but there has been no press. I did see two ‘water pieces” on the English news today, one about the need for safe water in Africa and women and children having to walk hours for it, the other about waste from faucets in the Western world. Tony Blair has left for the global warming summit in Germany so we won’t be seeing him in London where we have an event at Trafalgar Square tomorrow. Our team ‘ the Vermont Green Team - misses London as we will shoot ahead onto the ferry to Calais, France. Bon voyage again!!!!!
