Lisa Nash discusses the motivation to merge, lessons learned, and some of the challenges inherent to the process: Can a Merger Achieve Greater WASH Impact?
Blue Planet Network will retain its name and operate as an independent program of EMW’s WASH Solutions business unit. We will remain a community and platform driven by our member and donor needs.
This merger -- an inspiring and trend-setting step across the non-profit sector -- will help
Blue Planet Network become an innovation hub, where break-through member program ideas can be funded, tested, analyzed, shared and scaled. We will continue to create opportunities for you to support our members as they test out promising new initiatives.
Since 2002, Blue Planet Network has been committed to helping people in need get lasting safe drinking water and improved sanitation. We have grown from a 5-member community to more than 105 global members working in 2,400 communities across 27 countries. The merger will further advance our movement of empowering 105 global organizations to collaborate on our platform to plan projects, report on impact, monitor challenges, and share expertise. Today, our members are tracking 1,600 safe drinking water and sanitation projects on our platform, helping 1.1 million people with affordable access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
EMW is a respected nonprofit working in water and sanitation, health and education. Its “pay-for-performance” programs have attracted tens of millions of dollars of funding from an array of private institutions and multilateral organizations and have helped 5.9 million people in Southeast Asia improve their quality of life over the past 25 years. EMW has been an active member of Blue Planet Network's community and platform since 2006. For more details on East Meets West, explore its website here.
A personal message from Jin Zidell, Founder of Blue Planet Network:
"I started the organization in 2002 with a vision to raise awareness and funds to solve the global safe drinking water crisis in bold new ways. Being part of East Meets West is an exciting new chapter for Blue Planet Network. It is the smartest way I know to reach the goal I originally set of enabling 200 million people to access safe drinking water."
We remain grateful to each of you and your organizations for the trust you place in Blue Planet Network. We will continue to work hard to earn that trust every day!
With our best to you, and our heartfelt thanks,
Lisa Nash and the entire Blue Planet Network team
