The Dow Chemical Company • Presenting Sponsor for the Blue Planet Run 2007
Dow is proud to have been the presenting sponsor of the 2007 Blue Planet Run and was involved in the event on a number of levels. Globally, the Blue Planet Run passed through a total of six Dow sites along the Run, including Terneuzen (Netherlands), Stade (Germany), Schkopau (Germany), Bohlen (Germany), Pittsburg (CA) and Dow’s headquarters in Midland (MI).
Employees at these sites, along with other local Dow sites around the world, created events to involve their communities, increase awareness of the water scarcity issue and raise funds for the Blue Planet Run. Dow also hosted the Blue Planet Run announcement event in London April 2007 to reveal the official 2007 athlete team and route.
In the U.S., Dow created television and print advertisements to support the Blue Planet Run. It also presented a ‘Sneakers on Parade’ public art auction in NYC in conjunction with the New York Times newspaper. Twenty celebrities designed oversized sneakers that were displayed around New York City during the entirety of the Blue Planet Run and auctioned off to raise funds for the charity at the end of the summer. Additionally, two Dow employees were selected as part of the 21-person runner team. [more about Dow]
