Director of Development Job Summary

We are seeking qualified candidates to fill this full-time position.

The Director of Development has overall responsibility for the day-to-day planning, coordination and management of all aspects of fundraising on behalf of Blue Planet Network (BPN).  The person in this position will provide strategic planning and direction in order to sustain and strengthen individual, foundation and corporate revenue streams.
The Director of Development reports to BPN’s CEO and also works with BPN’s Board of Directors.  S/he is responsible for ensuring that development goals are reached and appropriate development strategies are implemented to support future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help represent BPN, interacting and networking in the broader community and among professional groups, corporate leaders and donors to enhance development efforts.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to build and implement a development plan that supports the current operating budget and quickly grows to support the strategic growth of the organization.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, manage, strategize and pursue foundation and corporate grants, including grant writing, relationship stewardship, report submission.
  • Design, implement and manage comprehensive annual giving program. 
  • Initiate, cultivate, manage, and steward relationships with the organization’s major individual prospects and donors through the creation of a major gifts program.
  • Oversee part-time staff managing donor/prospect database and donor recognition.
  • Train, support and inspire Board of Directors in procedures and techniques to improve their fundraising skills, success, and satisfaction.
  • Identify potential BPN BOD Directors with strong fundraising experience and an affinity for BPN’s mission.
  • Guide the writing and publication of an annual report and other program materials.
  • Develop annual fundraising budget projections based on approved fundraising goals.
  • Direct the planning and implementation of fundraising events to meet revenue and attendance goals.
  • As a member of the BPN management team, implement BPN policies and procedures and recommend policies and procedures to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Perform other relevant duties as needed and assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Passion and commitment to BPN mission, values and goals.
  • Record of raising funds with gross annual revenues of $750,000 or more
  • Experience in international and/or environmental development preferred
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading the development function in a dynamic nonprofit organization
  • Solid experience in designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans, including major gifts, corporate, foundation, and annual giving programs
  • Ability to effectively engage staff and Directors in solicitation and cultivation activities
  • Strong writing, editing and speaking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.  Ability to work easily and effectively with a wide range of people including major donors, Board Directors, fellow staff members, foundation, corporate and other nonprofit representatives.
  • Proven aptitude for strategic and creative planning in a collaborative manner with Board and staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experienced in working virtually, and comfortable working with fellow staff electronically to accomplish common objectives.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
